Prime Day: Hydration

Updated: Oct 11, 2023

Sure, I get it. If you're someone who can withstand the capitalist cornerstone that is Amazon- good for you!

For those of you always looking for a deal, well then- you're in for a treat. I have a few lists of my favorite items currently on sale for Prime Day*.

If you've worked with me, or have seen me speak, you know I'm all about avoiding toxins- mycotoxins or otherwise. An absolute necessity in this day in age is clean water. I am an avid believer that everyone should drink filtered water- specifically reverse osmosis water that has been re-mineralized. I have (and love) the under sink 6- stage Reverse Osmosis System by iSpring. It removes 99% of over 1,000 harmful contaminants like chlorine, fluoride, lead (removes up to 98%), arsenic, asbestos and more. Plus it's super easy to install - I was able to do it on my own!

Another little known benefit when it comes to hydrating is water structuring. Water today is processed and as such it lacks the natural "structure" we see in water found in nature. While there are a lot of expensive gadgets that structure water- the Mayu Water Swirl does an amazing job at an affordable price. I've owned a Mayu Swirl for over three years now, and it's part of my daily routine. I use structured water in all my beverages and cooking, and I swear I notice a difference in mouth feel and hydration. While it's admittedly a little "extra" It's actually a really cool concept- see for yourself and do some reading on structured water. Hint: A great book on the topic is "The Fourth Phase of Water" by Gerald Pollack-- but it's not on sale today - bummer.

As clearly, I have a thing about "my water", I make every effort to take it with me. In my household we lovingly call this thing the "chug jug". I drink upwards of a gallon of filtered, structured water per day, and this insulated jug makes it super easy. When it's empty- I'm done. Plus, it's stainless steel, so you don't have to worry about any of the bisphenols (yes, the mouth spout is plastic, but it's only in contact with water momentarily). And the handle is pretty helpful, as a gallon of water does get heavy...

When I want something a little different I will spring for some carbonated, filtered, structured water. This is where my favorite soda stream product comes in to play. The Aqua Fizz is a carbonation system that actually uses glass bottles- which is unheard of in the US. Back when I purchased this a couple of years ago, I believe it was imported from either Spain or Portugal- but for Prime Day it's 31% off. And then you can also grab some extra glass carafes while they are on sale too.

And perhaps the coup de grace to dehydration in our household is the best ever ice maker. The GE Opal nugget ice maker is perhaps my most beloved personal possession. Have you ever had hospital ice- that soft but crunchy, almost slushy ice? The kind that is gentle enough to chew on when you need some sensory input (this is actually calming to the limbic system for some people). I've had this for over two years now, and so long as you only use filtered water, and deep clean & descale it regularly it stays pretty clean (you can see the clear tubing in the housing- which is reassuring to me- especially as poorly maintained ice makers are notorious for mold). Of course, I use my structured and filtered water to make the ice too.

There are worse things I could spend my money on- including daily trips to coffee shops- but these are the items that have really helped me with my hydration habits. When you like something you stick to it!
